Our Journey

In the Beginning

In November of 2017, a small group of visionary educational professionals gathered in Spokane, Washington. Having just learned that the branch campus of the Bible institute that currently employed them would be closing at the end of the spring term, they began to chart a course toward founding a new organization in its place.

A Vision Revealed

The vision was of a university which would be part of Spokane’s legacy of biblical higher education,  and would expand upon that legacy with professional studies as well as studies in global engagement.

This vision was rooted in the conviction that the Lord had brought this group together for a purpose, and that His purpose for them was not ending. Resolved to fulfill that purpose, the group began collaborating to leverage their combined experience and professional qualifications for the development of a new Christian college in Spokane — unlike any Bible school, Christian academy or local colleges that went before it.

Doors of Opportunity

Exploring what it would take to turn this vision into reality, the Lord began opening doors that they couldn’t have opened on their own. By the end of December, the founders of this Christian university had elected officers and board members, and by the beginning of January 2018, the university’s application for incorporation as a non-profit entity of higher education was approved by the State of Washington.

On February 1, 2018, the university administration announced, with great excitement, the new university’s name to a group of interested partners and potential students — Great Northern University.

The university is excited to offer students the highest-degree of Christian education in the great Pacific Northwest, as it launches classes in the 2018 Fall semester.
