Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

3.13.2020

update 3.24.2020: The GNU Campus is now closed to the public and will not be providing any public services in person, in compliance with President Trump's March 16th guidance. We will re-evaluate this on April 1st, in accordance with Federal, state, and local guidance at that time.

Dear Great Northern University Students,

Good afternoon. First, I hope that you have enjoyed your Spring Break and that you have had the opportunity to relax, rest, and refresh.

Today, at 1:45 pm on Friday, March 13, Washington's Governor Jay Inslee restricted in-person classes, non-essential meetings, and activities at all public and private colleges and universities in the State of Washington, in response to the continued spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This emergency proclamation extends from March 17th through the 24th of April. Thus, in order to continue our spring semester, we will need to transfer from in-person classes to online and/or distance instruction for the next six weeks.

As of today, we are extending your Spring Break for one more week. Campus will be closed this next week. We will resume spring semester classes in this different format on Monday, March 23rd. The end of our spring semester will be the same.

In the upcoming week, we will finalize our plans for this transition. We will also provide additional training and coaching for our faculty members. In addition, we will  provide you with the needed training and resources for this transition. Our goal is to ensure the highest quality educational experience for you as possible.

We will continue to correspond with you in the upcoming week. In addition, we will provide additional information about commencement and other details. Here are some additional facts about COVID-19 and how GNU is responding to the public health concern it presents.

During the coming weeks, I would encourage you to be faithful and loving. We trust that God has allowed this season for His purposes, and I do not want you to miss Gospel-opportunities provided by this time of difficulty. Please continue to be faithful to your obligations such as rent and utilities. Be a supportive team player for your employers as they are making difficult decisions. All K-12 public and private schools in Washington State were cancelled today during the same time frame; if you have an opportunity to serve a family in your church or your neighborhood, please volunteer to help them during this time with childcare. Please seek ways to love people like our Savior does, who selflessly loved us. Please be praying for one another.

Thank you for your understanding during this time.

Please do not hesitate to connect with me if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Wendy L. Liddell

President
